Metropolis(1927) | Film Review

Metropolis(1927) is the genres drama and sci-fic German  films, direct by Frietz Lang.

In a futuristic city shared between the village class and the town, the son of the city´s mastermind start a love passion with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences.
The rest of the century the image of a futuristic city as a hell of scientific progress and human despair.

Sometimes the film becomes a bit confused due to the dramatic change in the direction of history from a moral lesson between rich and rotten and the beginning of the film to a dramatic and romantic love story between Maria and Freder.

This film is considered one of the best movies ever due to the special effects added and the fact that it is another silent film takes into account that it was in 1927 we have to realize that these effects were applied without the help of computers because they did not exist at that time what happens soon to be spectacular as all those skyscrapers and engaging in the movie cost a fortune.

There are facts that continue to fascinate the spectator especially by the way in which the filmmakers manage to get the whole message of the film through the expressive gestures of the actors, which is not surprising the way in which you can tell a story from beginning to end without saying a single word.

This type of film was once again the first film to show that by that time it is possible to create artificial intelligence (give life to the robots). The creators of the film already at the time believed that it was possible their theory of them and later came to confirm that they are right.

  1. Hi Philipe,

Can I check if you have made an appointment to see Maxine Chester yet please?

I can see from your links that you are looking at other sources for information about the film, which is good :) What you need to do now is apply that information in the correct way. So, you are asked to support your own ideas with quotes from 3 other sources - For example, if you were talking about how the film had influenced more modern films, you could support that with a quote like this, from the Guardian...

'Metropolis' has influenced many contemporary films such as 'Star Wars'. As Philip French says in his review in the Guardian, 'It influenced generations of film-makers and musicians, providing iconic images of oppression and liberation.' (French, 2015)

As you will see, I have backed my own idea up with a quote from a reputable source, and referenced it afterwards with the author's name and the date it was written. I would then have to make a bibliography at the end (instead of the 'links' list that you have, which is formatted in a particular way. You can see how to format the bibliography here -

I have a simplified version of the guide which I am happy to give you (in print form) - if you would like a copy, drop me an email at jhagan.s1@ucreative.ac.uk
